LOL OMG Lights - Angles

Shit MGA, slow the fuck down, this is too much too fast!
The previous wave only hit in December! And already there's a whole new one!??
FUCK.

November was the snow line, december was the next lot and now feb for this set.
yeesh.

Anyway,

Argos got stock in but nowhere else seems to have done so yet. Smyths is still saying March and Amazon is saying "we dunno" and scalpers are selling these for like £50+ a pop on the site. Because people suck and other people are impatient enough to pay through the nose. *sigh*

anyway,

the retail on these is £29:99, so not much different to the previous lot there.
they do however come in substantially smaller boxes and have a new gimmick, black light!

The box declares there's 15 surprises (down from 20 last time) AND that the box doubles as a playset but we all know those are absolute lies. The previous waves didn't have that many surprises and didn't have playsets, they had a fancy box with a door.

The back of the box shows the greyed out lineup. I don't know why they bother greying them out, it just makes them more difficult to see and thus figure out if you want them.

There's Groovy Babe who's kinda cool in black and white, Speedster in a 50s drag race/ru paul's drag race outfit (lol), Dazzle who's... er... I don't actually kow, she kinda bores me.. and Angles who's all pop art.

Like previous sets we have the "magic" colour appearing pull out. I mean it's fun and all, but it is just needless extra packaging so mmm.

The box is a lot skinnier than the previous boxes though, which is nice.

There are 5 less "surprises" but let's face it, those "surprises" were just extra fucking packaging and in no way surprising.

The doll herself is pretty vividly coloured with white, yellow, blue, red and black everywhere.
How fun.

She's a dark skinned doll, a similar if not identical shade to Miss independent from the previous wave in fact.

She has much less packaging inside the box here. There's only ONE clothing bag and a hat box. no shoe box as she's packaged wearing her shoes and no second bag.

Here's everything that's in the box.

But first I have to mention: A cardboard box IS NOT A PLAYSET MGA!
I mean christ this one isn't even pretending to be anything other than a fucking BOX.
MGA, you are taking the piss now.

So Angles ( I hate her name) comes with a blue hat box, a clothing bag with big squares in different colours, a yellow brush, a black stand and a sticker.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume MGA counts the sticker as a surprise so... surprise count:1

The hat box has tissue paper that matches the funky crazy print on the inside of her box.

Inside are two chunky bracelets, a pair of earrings and a blacklight torch! EEEE blacklight!

Wierdly the box itself doesn't mention the blacklight on the front, you'd think you'd advertise that. There's a hint on the side of the box where it mentions batteries but the only thing it says on the box is "shine bright, blacklight surprises" You'd think it'd say something like "includes blacklight!"
you know, rather than the lie about a playset.

Is a blacklight torch a surprise?

Surprise count = 2?

I'm not counting the earrings and bracelets because they're in her artwork on the fucking front of the box.

And this I assume must contain her jacket.

Which is made of a plastic kinda fabric like a raincoat and REALLY badly crumpled up. Why the hell is it crumped up? It's not like the box wasn't large enough for this to be hung with the sleeves straight rather than crushed.

Here she is all dressed. The jacket thankfully doesn't seem too worse for wear for being crushed into a ball.

Surprise count = still 2

She has very cute shoes which she comes wearing. They're not an exact pair, like her earrings they're both different and it's quite fun.

Her hair was CAKED in gel, her bangs were solid with that shit and the rest of her hair was crunchy. I didn't want to have to get her wet so I ended up combing it out which actually did the trick, phew. Her fringe looks a lot better without the gel caking it to her forehead.

She has choppy asymetric bangs that come right down to her eye on one side. She has no makeup on that side.

The side of her head isn't flocked and initially this pissed me off. I thought it was a cheap move for a £30 doll.
but it turns out there's a reason it isn't flocked. We'll get to that in the surprise section.

The rest of her hair is a bit of a mess. I understand what they were going for, all different layers and sections but it's not very well done and just looks messy and like a toddler got to it.

I feel like maybe if it was actually shorter it'd work better. Her artwork has her hair at just below shoulder length but it's a lot longer on the actual doll and instead of each colour chunk being a different length as I believe it's SUPPOSED to be, it's just two random layers. Hmmm.

Her outfit actually surprised me (surprise count = 3? lol) in that I didn't actually realise her pants were in fact dungarees with a wierd little panel attached to them.

This outfit is REALLY difficult to get on and off, it's extremely tight around the hips and the seams are already pulling around the butt region.

The whole thing is lined with this fake plethery shit that tends to flake over time which i'm not overly happy about. I'd have preferred ribbon, it would have stood the test of time better.
The straps of both top and dungaree things are also made of this plethery shit and it feels very very fragile, I was genuinely worried i'd tear it while trying to carefully get it back on her.
I mean yes, I get that these aren't really FASHION dolls in the sense they don't really seem to be designed to be redressed and their costumes are very character specific but you'd still think you'd design it so it wasn't going to tear as soon as you touched it.
This particular garment is very cool looking but in terms of longevity, it doesn't feel like they really made very wise choices with their fabric and it's quite a fragile piece that's a bit too tight for the doll it's supposedto go onto.

And this is the point I got the blacklight out. Unfortunately you cannot take photos of blacklight effects, least I couldnt work out how the hell you do it.
So i'll just have to describe them. Drat.

First her face:

Her makeup fluoresces under blacklight and some little shapes appear under her right eye.

The yellow in her hair also fluoresces.

The unflocked side of her head it turns out has a blacklight surprise too. It changes colour under a blacklight, one section becomes red, the other blue. That was the point I forgave the lack of flocking because that's freaking cool.

Moving down she has 3 coloured stripes on her right arm which light up and her fingernails also do so.

the red panel on her top and her pants shift to show the word "red" over and over again.
the blue panel on her pants shifts to show the word "blue"

I also ran the blacklight over her while she was nude because I was curious and er... it... it wasn't pretty. She has a smear that looks like a thumb print on her nose and then has spatter down her legs and over her panties. Ooo eeeer, she had a fun night out huh?

Ahem.

Is that a surprise?

thanks MGA.

But let's actually tally up our surprises.

1 for makeup, 1 for shapes, 1 for hair, 1 for shaved head, 1 for arms and 1 for nails, 1 for red, 1 for blue. That's 8?

So add the 2 from earlier that's 10 surprises. 10 is not 15.

I am assuming that MGA counts the earrings, bracelets and jacket as "surprises" even though they aren't in any way surprising. But unless you count each bracelet as an individual and each earring you're still short of 15.

Hmm. I can't be bothered trying to puzzle it out. It's a load of crap and it always is.

But at least there were some actual surprises this time, that's a nice change. The blacklight surprises are quite fun.

and the little blacklight torch is a lot of fun to play with heh.

I actually found out that most of the other LOL girls have lips that fluoresce under it and Neonlicious' stars do too!

Angles doesn't come with a purse or bag of any sort which is a shame in a way because the other OMG purses are quite cool, but they're also a pain to keep attached to the damn doll.

But now I can't stop playing with this teeny blacklight ahahahaha.

  1. I was wondering if Neonlicious would glow under blacklight, LOL. I love Angles!

  2. At least they've dumped some of the stupid extra packaging. But I can't help but wonder if these are going to be pretty gross under the blacklight after a few weeks of being in a kid's grubby little hands! Lol

  3. I bet the doll itself constitutes a surprise
