a very short disappointing review - Hairdudables single packs by Just Play

I was searching for bubblewrap which seems to have become super scarce in the UK, which took me all the way to the big Tesco which was also sold out. -_-

but while I was there I did notice the new Hairdudables single packs had hit. They had 4 on the shelf, I grabbed two.

Let's dive in shall we?

So i said this review would be short and I mean it. You'll understand when we get to it.

First, let's talk about the new boxes.

The new boxes look rather a lot like the old girl boxes, only with a locker motif instead of the... actually it's been a while, I can't remember what the little flap on the side of the girl ones WAS. Huh...

Anyway,

it promises 11 surprises and interestingly the side of the box details what those surprises are. Many of them are not surprises. Well, only ONE is a real surprise, which doll you got. All the rest of the things go with that doll so it's a lie saying there's any more than 1 surprise anyway but let's look at the list shall we?

1 collector list (this isn't a fucking surprise Just Play)

3 stickers (be still my beating heart)

shoes

signature card

2 accessories

one stand (again, not a fucking surprise)

one doll.

Wait... that's only 10 things isn't it? Are they counting each fucking SHOE as a separate surprise? Are they? Are they honestly doing that?

Oh fuck you Just Play. Seriously... what the hell is wrong with you?

That or they can't count.

let's move on before I get too angry about it.

The box opens wierdly.

Like.. SO wierdly.

First you open the locker to reveal the 4 little numbered shelves

Which is standard for the boxes, just on the opposite side of the box to the girls.

But once you open those you have to turn the WHOLE box around to open the doll part which I don't really understand. Why is it not a flap like the older boxes?
it's not very intuitive at all.

Peeling away this strip then lets you fold out the backing card thing that the older boxes had at the front and access the compartment the doll is inside of.

The backdrop is different for each doll and gives away who's in the box.

This one is a mini golf scene with a chess set in the front which means it's one of the Logans right?

The other box was an art studio. I didn't snap a picture of it. But that's gotta be one of the Gregs as he's the artist.

There are 4 boys in this set each with 2 variations.

I REALLY want Asher damnit.

Greg has two interesting versions with quite different hair to normal and Max is as always adorable. Check Mate Logan looks to have fairly long hair which is interesting too.

but damnit, i want the new boy!

Anyway, let's get back to deboxing.

We already guessed it's probably Logan from the backdrop and the first accessory out the box cinches it. It's a golf club and if that wasn't obvious enough, there's also a sticker of Logan to really drive home that this is a Logan doll.
Hole in One Logan specifically, the one of the eight I was least interested in.

Bah.

I mean honestly Just Play, if you're just gonna give away the surprise right at the first step why bother to hide them in plastic bags in the first place? What's the point? There's no surprise now. We KNOW it's Logan, we know it's specifically the golfing logan so why continue the farce? Just package the dolls normally and save a LOT of plastic waste.

The doll is inside the back of the box like this. It's the same ol' peel away plastic tray of the previous releases.
The artwork of the four boys is cute though.

I opened the second accessory from the box and... this happened.

-_-

this isn't what's supposed to be in that bag. Just Play fucked up.

Logan has no shoes because his shoe bag was replaced with a duplicate accessory bag. Presumably someone out there now has a logan with no golf club and two sets of shoes. That would actually have been preferable to this bullshit. What am I supposed to do with a doll with NO SHOES Just Play?

So now I was grumpy.

Things didn't improve much opening the second doll (Greg remember, the art studio)

I mean yes, he's cute... but those aren't his correct shoes.

they're check mate Logan's shoes. I know this because they say "check" on the bottom of them with a little chess piece motif.
Greg is supposed to be wearing little sneakers.

So that's 2 defective dolls. There were only 4 in the store, were they ALL defective or was I just super unlucky? Even if only these two were, a 50% defect rate is really bad.
I'm not at all impressed by this.

I emailed Just Play, now I await their response but i'm not holding my breath. I assume they'll just fob me off like most of these companies do because taking responsibility for their shitty QC is something toy companies seem loathe to do. (Unless they're Moose, Moose are really good at making things right. Go figure)

So I spent £30 and I got ONE doll I could actually display.

I don't know what to do with Logan. his outfit doesn't fit properly and is fugly as all hell and he's barefoot which looks stupid. It's not like Hairdorables are easy to swap shoes from other things with, their feet are teensy tiny.

I'm all around just annoyed and cranky about this. Which is why the review is short.

Be warned. This new line seems to have a fairly big risk of defects. I'll update when/if I hear back from Just Play.

till then i'm just gonna be all moody about it. *huff*

  1. I'd say you have every right to be annoyed.
